In Time [2011]

One of the few satisfyingly decent and gorgeously fulfilling movies I have viewed in awhile.

I've heard of time being used as currency before but I never perceived it would ever come out to being as cool and as intriguing as Niccol's way of portraying it. To have a timer on the forearm that is used for buying and selling as well as a life-meter is definitely a well thought-out and neat way of conveying a difficult concept.

Justin Timberlake, contrary to previous appearances, did a great job acting in this film. I was a bit skeptical at first because of seeing some of his past films, I was not at all expecting the stellar performance he displayed onscreen.

Amanda Seyfried, on the other hand, was less than stellar in this acting bit. Even though a few of her previous performances weren't up to par either, I was definitely expecting more out of her than what she gave onscreen.

A few things to note:

  1. Don't turn off the movie after the first 5 minutes. I was a little confused and somewhat disappointed at the onset of the film because neither the script nor the environment was given to fully explaining the story or what really was going on at the beginning of the film. Don't worry, after about 7 minutes into the movie, more of the plot and character development takes place and you start feeling drawn in.
  2. As dissatisfying as the ending may seem, realize that this movie was definitively pushing an agenda and that agenda was not a "...and they lived happily ever after" sort of ending. The political themes of rob the rich to feed the poor were very prevalent. Some have even cited this movie as the Robin Hood of Sci-fi.
  3. There are a few unnecessary moments in the movie that I would have liked to see removed from the movie, but alas, I realize Hollywood has to add some crap in order to reach a bigger audience.

Overall, I would recommend watching this movie at least once. It was a great action packed romance and drama. Maybe not a kid-friendly movie but a great movie to kick back to and be truly entertained.

I'd give it 4 out of 5 bullets (because stars are too mainstream).

Thanks for reading.
